Provincial History and Information
The Fourth Degree was
established on February 22nd, 1900 by the Supreme Council with an inauguration
Class of over
1100
Knights of Columbus in New York City at the Lennox Lyceum.
Ohio was part of Calvert
Province which included NY, NJ, PA, MD, & OH. From February 22, 1900 through
January 8, 1921, KY and WV were part of the De Soto Province.
Michigan was part of the F. Marquette Province
from February 22, 1900 through January 8, 1921, MI, IN, IL, WI & MN were part
of the Fr. Marquette Province.
The Board of Directors of
the Supreme Council Voted on January
8th,
1921
“VOTED that a new province embracing the States of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana,
Kentucky and West Virginia, be created, and that the said new Fourth Degree
Province be and is hereby named ‘Fr. Hennepin Province’.”
On October
19,
1969
it was revised to only include Ohio and Michigan establishing a new province
creating the Father Sorin Province with Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
The Fr. Hennepin Province
currently has 3 Districts in Michigan and 3 District in Ohio, each served by a
District Master. There is a total of 173 Assemblies and over 17,000 Sir
Knights in the Province.
Michigan District #1 covers
the Archdiocese of Detroit and has 33 Assemblies.
Michigan District #2 covers
the Diocese of Lansing, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids and has 28 Assemblies.
Michigan District #3 covers
the Diocese of Gaylord, Marquette and Saginaw and has 38 Assemblies.
Ohio District #1
covers the Diocese of Cleveland and Youngstown and has 30
Assemblies.
Ohio District #2
covers the Diocese of Cincinnati and Toledo and has 25
Assemblies.
Ohio District #1
covers the Diocese of Columbus and Steubenville and has
19 Assemblies.
